The main problem that most people have is sticking to a fitness program. Motivation is their greatest obstacle. If you want to stay physically fit, or at least get on the right track with better healthier you, here are a few suggestions that can help you get in shape once again.

Establish a Routine

There are many components to a good exercise regimen including the proper amount of exercise and the right amount of rest. If you are missing these essential ingredients, you will not succeed as they are necessary for you to progress forward. You need to challenge your body! If you do not, you won’t break the muscle tissue down as necessary to see results.

You also need to have the muscles rebuild. This is a key component of benefiting from this process. If you do too much training, this can actually hurt you if you do not rest. You can also slow your training process altogether. You have to take a break and doing aerobic exercise and strength training to see improvements. The exercise programs should be staggered, not doing the same one every day. You need to rest one or two days as well.

Consider Workout Intensity

Instead of doing cardio workouts that go for a long time, that are light or moderate in intensity, go for interval training for your workout routine. The key is to modulate between high and low intensity workouts during the interval training. You can do this with an elliptical machine or a treadmill. So rather than jogging around a track at a steady speed, you would alternate between walking and sprinting. You will not only burn fat, but your metabolism will go higher which is what you want. Shorter workouts, plus better health benefits, is what you will get by doing this. As you get older, this is very beneficial for not only your heart, but maintaining your growth hormone levels.

Start Walking

Did you know that walking is one of the simplest but effective workouts you can do and it doesn’t have to cost you anything? Walking has many advantages. You can walk regardless of where you live. You can walk around your neighborhood, in the mall, a track, sidewalks, and practically anywhere. No matter what your current level of fitness, you can start walking. Try getting started gradually and in flat or level surfaces. As your fitness level gets better, you can start walking faster and farther.

You can even start walking uphill. Walking doesn’t have to be a solitary activity. Invite your partner, a few neighbors, or even your friends to go walking with you regularly. The recommendations we’ve covered in this article are just some of the strategies you can use to improve your level of fitness. Try to go for an exercise program or diet that will help you achieve your goals. Always look at what you are achieving everyday.
